April Newsletter
April 1st Election News
Wisconsin Democrats scored an important victory with Judge Susan Crawford’s election to the state Supreme Court. Dr. Jill Underly won re-election as state School Superintendent. We overcame Musk’s millions.
Crawford won with 55% to 45% for Brad Schimel. Similar results for Underly. Unfortunately, the Voter ID referendum was overwhelmingly approved and is now part of the state constitution. The Kewaunee School referendum was approved by 17 votes. Our own Frank Madzarevic won election to the Kewaunee School Board.
Thanks to the volunteers who canvassed, made phone calls, wrote postcards, put up signs, staffed the office, attended protests and spoke with friends and neighbors.
“Liberty has never come from the government. Liberty has always come from the subjects of it. The history of liberty is a history of resistance.”

Greg St. Arnold USAID Report: March 2025 Speaking of Democracy Meeting
Greg St. Arnold worked with humanitarian agencies in Africa, Asia and the Middle East. At the March meeting Greg presented the importance of USAID overseas. Greg emphasized and provided evidence that USAID benefited the United States’ security, finances and character in the countries it served. Trump’s recent cuts to USAID will undermine these benefits and the efforts of those involved in humanitarian causes. Greg is the son of member Peggy DeGroot.
Legislative Watch
Wisconsin’s new DOGE-inspired government efficiency committee Government Operations, Accountability and Transparency Committee (GOAT).
GOAT was created by Republican Assembly Speaker Robin Vos in December 2024 to “root out waste, fraud and abuse in state government”. There are six Republicans and three Democrats on the committee. The committee met for the first time March 11. Prior to this meeting Vice Chair Rep. Shae Sortwell (R-Two Rivers) sent open records requests to all 72 counties and Wisconsin’s largest municipalities asking for details on how they “have spent money on diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI).” Click here for more information WI Assembly GOAT committee first meeting

Tracking Federal Funding: The Effect on Wisconsin Schools
Federal funding is essential to support the diverse needs of Wisconsin’s students, schools and libraries. These resources provide vital assistance for students with disabilities and their families, youth mental health programs and English Language Learners. Efforts to reduce class sizes are supported through federal funding. Federal funding plays a key role in expanding equitable school lunch programs, career and technical education opportunities, academic enrichment and more.
The Department of Public Instruction launched a new interactive map to show how federal funding impacts each Wisconsin school district. Check out your local school district.
