April 2026 Newsletter

Hey! Vote Tuesday, April 7th. It is your right!

Buckle-up, Buttercup, We’ve a Busy Few Weeks Ahead

There is nothing more important than getting to the polls on April 7th but there is no letting up from here on out!

April 4th – Get out the VOTE Blitz of Algoma

Join the team this Saturday from 9a-noon delivering candidate literature to likely Algoma Dems who, analysis shows, may need an extra nudge to get to the polls on April 7th.  Show up at the Algoma Office at 9a Saturday. Wear comfy shoes. Get a free “Vote Decency” tee shirt as our thanks.

April 11th – We’re Hosting Gubernatorial Candidate Forum Designed for VOTERS

Kewaunee, Door, Brown and Manitowoc County Democratic parties have taken the unprecedented step to join forces to host a unique chance for voters to interact with all seven announced Democratic Party candidates for Governor!

Sara Rodriguez, Kelda Roys, Francesca Hong, Mandela Barnes, Missy Hughes, Joel Brennan and David Crowley will all be making the trek to Southern Door to take part in the event.

Rather than the typical “talking heads” at these things, the organizing team is planning for each candidate to host smaller, more intimate, breakout sessions.  This format allows for an actual dialogue between you and the candidates.

To register for the event and receive an email with location details scan this QR code or click this link

April 19th Deadline for Delegates to 8th Congressional Convention

There are still a few openings for Party members to participate in the annual Convention of the 8th Congressional District.  This year’s event is being held at UW-Green Bay on Saturday May 2.

The Convention is part business meeting, part fun and ALL democracy in action.  If you are interested in participating email Stan Johnson, Kewaunee County Dems Chair at stan_johnson@att.net soon!

April 21st Speaking of Democracy

‍ While the location is still yet to be determined, please pencil in this monthly meeting of all those with whom we share progressive values!

Democracy.  It “Takes a Village” and We Need “Village People”

As you’ve read in previous editions of this Newsletter, our efforts from here on out will be singularly focused on getting our voters to the polls AND winning elections.  To do so we need to build a bigger team or - with a nod to Hillary - a bigger Village, to be successful.  Simply said, we need volunteers for these top, recurring, needs:

Making phone calls

Whether it’s to remind a couple dozen of our members of upcoming events or to remind potential voters of upcoming elections, we have almost monthly needs for people to make calls and simply leave messages.

Direct voter contact.  Also known as “Door Knocking” and “Canvassing”.  This method produces the highest number of people to the polls.  Volunteers go door to door and drop off candidate literature. The addresses are provided by the state party and are typically “pro-Dems” or determined they are in a category that can be moved to vote blue.

Sign takers. This one is simple; sign up to take a lawn sign this summer. Live in the country or have land on a well-traveled road with space for a BIG sign? Even better. Let us know if you have a place for a road sign.

Sign installers. All those big road signs don’t go up by themselves. Starting this summer, we’ll need some able-bodied folks, with trucks or vans, who can handle a stake pounder. Between Sept 1 and 14 there will be an urgent need to get up a lot of signs QUICKLY.

Postcard writers. Like making phone calls, we need people who are willing to write 20-30 postcards to likely voters.  We provide the cards, addresses and a couple sample messages.  You provide the stamps and the “person-power”.

Office volunteers.  As the campaign season grows, so will our office hours.

Your time and talents are critical to Democracy’s success, so please, click on “Volunteer Now” button.

We’re Showing Up – A Recap of Dems in Action

New Messaging Rolling Out

Kewaunee County Dems along with Brown and Door Dems and Indivisible Door County are teaming up on their third campaign as Vote4Dems. Previously known as TIC, the team creates high quality media and messaging for Democratic and Progressive organizations.

Check out the Kewaunee County billboard on Hwy 54 going west out of Luxemburg.

The same graphic is on billboards in Door and Brown Counties.

Here are three video messages produced by Vote4Dems—just click on the links to open:

The Cost of a Single Tomahawk Missile  (29 seconds)

Greed, Bigotry and Bullying Masquerading as Strength--Obama's Powerful Message at Jackson Funeral (8 minutes)

No Kings Events Break Records

Thanks to Vocal Locals, Kewaunee County was well represented in the national No Kings Day of Action.

The March 28th event broke records for the largest mass protest in US history with initial estimates exceeding 9 million participants nationwide.

Locally, 110 demonstrators showed us what democracy in Kewaunee County looks like.

Experts find that protests change the course of unpopular positions 100% of the time when 3.5% of the population sustains opposition. A 11.3 million goal is reachable.

Non-Partisan League of Women Voters Explores Kewaunee County Addition

Interested voters in Kewaunee County are looking to form a League of Women Voters in our community. Participation is open to everyone of all political affiliations and genders, age 16 years or older.

An informational meeting will be held April 27 at the Kewanee Public library 822 Juneau St., Kewaunee from 11:30 - 1 PM.

To form a league, there needs to be volunteers for: Treasurer, Secretary, and President. Currently, there are volunteers for the Treasurer and Secretary positions, however, no one has yet volunteered to be President.

If you are unable to attend the April 27th meeting and interested, please contact Brandi Suryn: bsuryn@lwvwi.org
