Supreme Court Candidates—Who are they and what are their philosophies?

Judge Chris Taylor
Topline Message: Judge Taylor has spent her career protecting the rights and freedoms of Wisconsinites. As an attorney, legislator, and now a judge she has always believed the law is a powerful tool for protecting people. That’s why she has protected the constitutional rights of all Wisconsinites and stood up to extremists trying to rip those rights away. She will protect a progressive majority on the state Supreme Court and be the fair, impartial, and independent justice Wisconsin needs.

● Judge Taylor has spent her three-decade legal career fighting for the rights of
Wisconsinites. As a former state legislator, Chris has also used her legal training to
improve public policies, including protecting and enhancing people’s rights,
strengthening our democracy, and bringing Democrats and Republicans together to
protect victims of domestic violence. As an attorney and public policy director for
Planned Parenthood of Wisconsin, she understands the importance of reproductive
healthcare and has fought to make sure women can make their own personal health
care decisions. Now, as a Court of Appeals Judge, she ensures that our laws and
constitution are fairly and impartially upheld.

● Judge Taylor has been a champion for public safety and victims’ rights. From
working to improve protections for victims of sexual assault and domestic violence, to
upholding our laws and improving community safety as a judge, she believes everyone
has a right to feel safe in their home and in their community.
This election is an opportunity to reinforce the pro-freedom, pro-democracy majority on
the Court that Wisconsinites have overwhelmingly supported in recent Supreme Court
elections. Flipping this seat will help protect the hard-fought progress that we’ve been able to secure.

On Maria Lazar
Topline Message: Maria Lazar, is a right-wing extremist who will take our rights and freedoms away. If elected, Lazar would be the most extreme member of the Court. She supports restricting access to abortion, she ruled in favor of extremists trying to overturn the 2020 election, and she has spent her career protecting big businesses and right-wing special interests instead of the people of our state.

● Maria Lazar Opposes Access To Abortion: Maria Lazar called the repeal of Roe v.
Wade “very wise” and said that if she were on the state Supreme Court she would have
voted to keep Wisconsin’s 1849 abortion ban on the books. Recently she even
suggested that Wisconsin could pass a ban on all abortions after six-weeks, before most
women know they’re pregnant. It’s no surprise she was previously endorsed by Pro-Life Wisconsin, a group that only endorses candidates who agree with their extreme position that 100% of abortions should be illegal. That group even wants to take away access to fertility treatment and contraceptives.

● Maria Lazar Is A Threat To Our Democracy: As a judge, Lazar ruled in favor or turned
over personal voting data to people spreading conspiracy theories about the 2020
election – a decision the Supreme Court reversed. As Scott Walker’s lawyers she also
defended Republican-drawn legislative maps and fought to make it tougher for
Wisconsinites to vote. She will not protect our democracy on the Court.

● Maria Lazar Is A Rubber Stamp For Special Interests And Big Corporations: Maria
Lazar has spent her career protecting special interests and big corporations. As an
attorney she helped big banks and predatory lenders kick Wisconsin families out of their
homes during the housing crisis and as a judge she has ruled in favor of special interests
who want to make it easier for corporations to dump toxic chemicals in our waterways.

● Maria Lazar Is Counting On Help From The Same Right-Wing Billionaires Who
Have Spent Millions Trying To Buy A Seat. Maria Lazar has deep ties to the same
right-wing billionaires who have poured tens of millions into Wisconsin Supreme Court
elections. We know they will stand by her in this race and make sure she has the
resources she needs to compete. That’s why Judge Chris Taylor is building a strong
grassroots network across the state to organize, get the message out, and fight back
