Nomination Signature How-To
● Any eligible voter in the State of Wisconsin can circulate nomination signatures; they do not need to be registered or live in the district.
● To sign nomination papers, the voter must live in the district, but does not need to be registered.
● Forms must be filled out completely and legibly. Signers need to use a pen.
○ Do not leave any sheets unattended, circulators must keep track of all sheets.
○ Complete one entire page before circulating another.
○ Only certify (at the bottom of the page) when you are done collecting signatures on that page.
● A person may sign only one nomination paper for each office level in an election period.
○ You can circulate nomination papers for different offices (Ex. You can circulate for Taylor, a county board member, and a school board, etc.) but cannot do for multiple candidates for the same office
● The signer must indicate their residence, including street number, street, and municipality.
Best Practices
● Start Early (within the signature collection window) and set goals
● Use relational organizing–start with your network first! Have your friends ask their friends! Depending on the # of signatures needed, this might be the most efficient way to collect signatures.
● Take advantage of in-district high traffic canvassing opportunities
Happy signature collecting!
