ON HIGH GAS PRICES
TOPLINE: Gas prices are soaring across the nation, crushing Wisconsin families and farmers as the result of Republicans’ continued support of Trump’s illegal war with Iran.
This month, the average cost of diesel hit another record at $6.23 a gallon according to AAA.
Gas prices have reached near-record highs in Wisconsin due to Wisconsin Republicans who unapologetically back Trump’s war-of-choice in Iran that is making life more unaffordable for working Wisconsinites.
These surging fuel prices are hitting Wisconsin farmers especially hard. Not only have diesel prices hit record highs, but now transport companies are tacking on new surcharges to move harvests, with some farmers reporting a doubling in both diesel costs and transport rates.
Democrats tried to end the Trump administration’s illegal actions overseas by forcing a vote on the War Powers Act, which would have stopped the war in Iran, but every single Wisconsin Republican voted against it. Now, Wisconsinites are feeling the effects at the pump.
David Crowley knows that working families can’t afford the costs of gas that D.C. politicians like Tom Tiffany are keeping high by supporting Trump’s reckless wars abroad.
Crowley will eliminate the state's minimum markup law that requires retailers in most cases to mark up the price of gas 9.18% above the average wholesale price.
On the First Congressional District
TOPLINE: Wisconsin’s First Congressional District has recently drawn national attention for its potential to flip blue. Wisconsinites are tired of the corruption Bryan Steil has enabled and cost-raising policies he has rubber-stamped, and are ready to elect Democratic candidate Mitchell Berman, who will actually fight for working people in Congress. Mitchell Berman has steadily gained traction against Steil, despite Republicans pouring millions into Steil’s war chest.
Last week, the Cook Political Report moved its rating of Wisconsin’s First Congressional District closer to Democrats–the first time this has happened since 2018. This ratings shift shows what Wisconsinites in the CD-1 have long believed to be true: Bryan Steil is beatable, and this seat is not guaranteed for Republicans.
Earlier this month, the DCCC added Berman’s campaign to its competitive “Red to Blue” program, aimed at boosting candidates in red districts seen as flippable.
Berman also earned the endorsement of the Democratic Blue Dog Coalition, a testament to his dedication to common-sense policy solutions and labor issues.
With Democrats in highly competitive positions to flip CD-1 and CD-3, Wisconsin Democrats not only have the opportunity to gain control of the U.S. House, but also to end the Republican majority in Wisconsin’s congressional delegation.
