WISCONSIN DEMOCRATS’ LAWSUIT AGAINST THE TRUMP ADMINISTRATION

TOPLINE: Last Friday, Democracy Defenders Action and Hecker Fink LLP filed a lawsuit against the Trump administration on behalf of the Democratic Party of Wisconsin and Wisconsin Democratic candidate for Treasurer, Yee Leng Xiong, challenging the Trump administration’s unlawful use of taxpayer dollars for partisan political advertisements.

  • The Trump administration has already spent $20 million airing campaign-style partisan political ads that are promoting President Trump and attacking his political opponents ahead of the midterm election. These ads are airing across the country, including in Wisconsin.

    • Between September 23 and September 29, the Trump administration used taxpayer funds to air the illegal ads at least 2,766 times.

  • The Democratic Party of Wisconsin has never rolled over in the face of threats from MAGA extremism—and WisDems is joining Democracy Defenders Action and Yee Leng Xiong’s campaign to fight back against the Trump administration and Trump’s billionaire buddies’ attempt to buy another election in Wisconsin.

  • While Wisconsinites can barely afford basic needs, the Trump administration is using our taxpayer dollars for illegal Republican campaign ads.

  • Last week’s lawsuit charges the Trump administration with illegally diverting border security and memorial funds for partisan midterm ads.

  • Despite President Trump’s announcement that the Pro-Trump super PAC, MAGA Inc., would cover costs for future ad spots, the administration has no plan to reimburse taxpayers for the millions of public dollars already spent.

  • When Wisconsinites turn on the TV, we want to watch our Brewers or Packers win, not be reminded of Republican lies, rampant corruption, and misuse of our hard-earned dollars.
